Razvan Suma

Razvan Suma is one of the most prominent Romanian cellist who first studied at National Music University in Bucarest and subsequently at the Longy School of Musicof Bard College in Cambridge.

As part of his master classes, he trained under renowned cellists such as Arto Noras, Frans Helmerson, Here-Jan Stegenga, Miklos Perenyi, Marin Cazacu and Radu Aldulescu. Since the age od seven, Suma has been an awarded cellist and a winner of significant international competitions (Markneukirchen in Germany, G. B. Viotti in Italy, Chişina in Moldavia and Villa de Llanes in Spain).

He has performed throughout Europe with numerous orchestras.Additionally, hehas cooperated with renowned artists such as M. Vengerov, A. Sitkovetsky, R. Galliano C. Mandeal and others. Since 2010, he has been a resident solo cellist at the Romanian Radio National Orchestra and a cello professor at the Music University in Bucarest.

As a soloist and a chamber musician, he has performed in prestigious halls throughout Europe, the USA, China, Vietnam and Marocco. Since 2011, he has taken part in the “Do you like…?” project primarily devoted to J. S. Bach and then to J. Brahms, F. Schubert, L. van Bethoveen but also the tango. Along with Basque pianist Josu Okiñena, with whom he performs in the most prestigious halls in the world, Razvan pursues a notable career in duo formation. He is the founder and the artistic director of the first cello festival in Romania – the CellEAST Festival.
