About the performer
Marija Spengler Markovic

Marija Spengler Markovic completed her undergraduate and magister studies as a student of generation at the FMU in Belgrade in the class of Dejan Mihailović.

She trained as a scholar of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under David Takeno where she received her master’s degree with the highest praise and a concert soloist degree. She won the first prize at the Michelangelo Abbado International Competition in Italy (1995) and the Musical Youth Competition Prize in Belgrade (1996). As a soloist, she has performed with many orchestras from Serbia, Hungary and Italy. Besides, she has premiered numerous works in the country and abroad (Erić, Voice and others).

She regularly performs in chamber and orchestral concerts with the English Chamber Orchestra and the Aurora Orchestra from London. She has cooperated with modern music ensembles such as the Musikfabrik Ensemble from Keln and the Ensemble Modern from Frankfurt.

As a guest concertmaster, she has performed with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Dutch Chamber Orchestra, the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and The RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra. She has been a concertmaster and soloist of the St. George Strings Chamber Orchestra.

She is a member of the BandArt Orchestra from Madrid. She has performed in large halls throughout Europe, in South America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and festivals in Darmstadt, Lucerne, Vienna, Brussels, the PROMS Festival in London, BEMUS, NOMUS and Ohrid Summer. She has cooperated with renowned artists (P. Boulez, K. Davis, A. Hewitt, G. Nikolić, M. Vengerov, L. Pavarotti and others).

She has held violin courses in England, Spain and Serbia. She has made a series of permanent recordings for the RTS and the BBC.Since 2004, she has been employed at the FMU as a violin professor. She received her doctorate in the class of M. Jokanović in 2015. She is a full professor of violin.
