Mihail Horia

Romanian pianist Horia Mihail made his debut performing Haydn’s Concerto in D Major at the age of only ten. Since then he has performed as a soloist more than one thousand times with the great majority of Romanian symphonic orchestras, including the George Enescu Philharmonic and the National Radio Orchestra.

After studying in Brașov and at the Music Academy in Bucharest (under Prof. Stela Drăgulin and Prof. Constantin Ionescu-Vovu, respectively), he studied for three years at the University of Illinois, where he took courses with Ian Hobson, obtaining a Master of Arts Degree in 1995. In 1999, he received the Artist Diploma Degree from Boston University, where he studied with Anthony di Bonaventura.

Horia Mihail has given concerts and solo and chamber music recitals in 24 countries on four continents. He has performed with numerous famous musicians and his performances have also been broadcast worldwide on radio and television. In addition, he has made recordings with the National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Romania.

After lecturing for three years at Boston University, Horia Mihail returned to his native Brașov in 2002 as the soloist of the city’s Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the famous Romanian Piano Trio, performing successfully both in Romania and abroad.

Since 2009, he has been appointed concert soloist of the National Radio Orchestra, working with a number of notable conductors and touring across Romania, Italy, and Japan. Horia Mihail is the Artistic Director of the Brașov Philharmonic, General Director of the TAMTAM Festival, and is enjoying a very rich career both as a soloist and a chamber musician.
