Ljubomir Milanovic

Ljubomir Milanović completed his graduate and postgraduate studies in viola at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade (under Prof. Petar Ivanović). He continued studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (under Prof. David Takeno).

He actively performs as a soloist, chamber and orchestra musician. As a soloist, he has performed with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, the RTS Symphonic Orchestra, and the St. George Strings Chamber Orchestra. His collaborations with highly regarded musicians include Gordan Nikolić, Julian Rachlin, Emmanuel Pahud, Yuri Bashmet, Roman Simović, Irena Grafenauer, Ilya Grubert, Sreten Krstić, Kiril Rodin, Ksenija Janković, Wilfried Strehle, Dejan Lazić, Viktor Tretiakov, James Boyd, Louise Hopkins and numerous other artists.

As one of the founding members and principal violist of the St. George Strings Chamber Orchestra, he has performed at concerts all over Europe. Additionally, he has participated in international projects with other ensembles. He performed with the Det Jyske Chamber Orchestra from Denmark, with which he toured Denmark, Greece, and Syria. He was a guest member of the LSO Chamber Ensemble. Over the course of 2017 and 2018, he served as a member of the international orchestra of the Shenzhen Belt and Road International Music Festival (China).

Apart from the standard literature for viola, he regularly performs contemporary music. Some of the greatest Serbian composers (Zoran Erić, Ivan Jevtić, and Svetislav Božić) have dedicated their works to Ljubomir Milanović, recognizing him as an artist ‘with great sense for structure, rich sound, and exceptional technique’.

Ljubomir Milanović is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade.
